Breathe Your Way to Calm A deep breath won’t solve all your problems, but it can make them feel more manageable. Conscious breathing isn’t just something you start a yoga class with—it’s a science-backed way to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system, turning off the stress response and regaining control. The 4-7-8 Breath (Relaxation Pro) I like to use this one before a big presentation. It reminds my nervous system that the worst-case scenario doesn’t involve getting eaten by lions: Inhale deeply for 4 counts. Hold your breath for 7 counts.
